The complete guide to KÄT wool coats

WHY WOOL

Our designer has had a big love for wool coats since…forever. The first few things she designed for KÄT were wool trousers, so the need for a perfect coat came with Autumn season 2015. All our coats are 100% wool and never less. This makes it possible to wear them over the years and the coat becomes alive, getting softer and blending with your needs. All our coats are fully lined with viscose lining.

HOW TO PICK YOUR STYLE

We have different styles and colors of coats for every taste, we hope. If not, do not hesitate to ask where your perfect coat is!

100% moss green wool coat in mid-length and removable belt

The feminine long coat

MAGIE is a feminine long coat with a removable belt that accentuates the wearer's waistline and it comes in three different colour options.

The classic Black - for a more festive look or to go full on Matrix. It’s easy to style with everything. Wear it daily or over long evening gowns.

Olive Green. Everyday coat that gives you the power-look that you actually don’t need (cause all women are powerful), but can give you the boost we all sometimes want. It’s cut from beautiful olive green wool fabric that never goes out of style.

Blue Magie is our newest in the bunch. This fabric will always get the looks when walking around, a beautiful blue color with light gray squares. Matches perfectly with light beige outfit and bright white sneakers, giving it a fresher look.

100% wool coat in black pinstripe pattern and tulip sleeves

Inspired by menswear

When Kätlin first started designing a jacket and a coat with this pinstriped wool, she never knew that she got inspired by her grandpa. Her mother sent a picture a day after with her grandfather wearing exactly the same coat.

JOE coat is an angora wool blend coat, so soft and super warm. It has an added wind resistant fabric as a middle layer to keep it extra cozy. Oversize cut, so you can layer those thick knits underneath. We added an extra button on the neckline, so it is easy to button up completely. Let’s not forget about the chain, giving that Peaky Blinders style with a rustic boot. Or if not a fan, it is easily removable without any extra work.

100% heavy wool coat in bright orange and removable hood

The bright and warm JOELL. Very heavy wool for very heavy winter. Seriously, it’s so warm that it already weighs so much you can feel it.
Our first coat with a hoodie. I mean, finally! And it is removable, so you can still wear that new warm KÄT hoodie you love underneath. Raw edges give the coat a cooler look and that bright orange color just does not need any extra details, an eye catcher for sure.

100% wool coat in nude tone inspired by kimono

Like a bathrobe but for outside

Classic cut with a hint of asian streetstyle makes CLARA perfect for simplicity and minimalism lovers. Easy to throw over jumpers or go festive with knee-high heeled boots. Comes in blue and light beige. Oooh, and that light beige has a wind resistant middle layer as well.

It’s all in the details

Beautiful BENITA is an elegant knee-length coat that hides details on the sleeves that only show when the light hits right. Soft silky wool that keeps getting better while aging. Putting BENITA on gives you an instant power-kick.

WHERE OUR WOOL COMES FROM

Our superior wool comes from Germany. For over 350 years, it has been a family business for 10 generations.

From thread to finished fabric. With passion and dedication in every step. In the oldest textile mill in Germany. And quality cannot be made without equal measures of passion, skill and experience.

Custom-manufactured, customer-oriented that makes our wool unique. In every way.

HOW TO STORE YOUR WOOL COAT

Wool coats should be thoroughly cleaned (dry cleaning is recommended), dried, brushed and aired out before storing them in breathable, natural-cotton coat bags to avoid a moth getting into them during summer. In a pinch, zip-lock or resealable plastic bags will do the trick. Hang the coat on a chunky wooden hanger to help it keep its shape and avoid wrinkles and creases in the shoulders. Some heavier shapes that have a unique cut should be folded and placed in a breathable bag, so the coat will not lose its shape.

HOW TO CLEAN WOOL COATS

New wool is due to its natural lanolin and fabric structure totally dirt repellent. If the Loden is dry, dirt and mud can easily be removed by brushing it out.

If there are any dirt spots, let it dry and gently brush the coat with suede brush. In case it does not come out it is quite hard to remove the stains at home without rubbing it in, so dry cleaning comes to help. But you can try to get the stains out with wool shampoo. But wool itself is very absorbent, so it can be difficult to remove stains (liquid stains) once they have been absorbed by the fiber. As with all fibers, the best method of preventing a stain when a spill happens is to treat the spill as quickly as possible.

Dry cleaning should be done 1-2 a year, but not more, because dry cleaning shortens wool fabrics lifetime.

If your wool coat has the smell of a wet lamb :D, it is not a problem. Just put some white vinegar in a small spray bottle and spray it on the coat. And that's all! It sounds strange, sure, but the acid in the vinegar will counter the odors by leveling out the pH. The vinegar smell will dissipate in a short time, so you don't need to worry about smelling like salad dressing. An easy way to refresh the smell of your coat.

If a wool garment is only lightly rumpled and wrinkled, it can often be revived with steam alone. If you don't have a clothes steamer, simply hanging the garment on a sturdy hanger in a humid environment like a steamy bathroom may be enough. The heat and moisture will help the fibers relax and release the wrinkles. If you want to iron your coat, put it flat on the ironing table, make sure the coat is not wet, ironing wool fabrics in wet may strain them out of shape.

Pills appear on fabric when groups of short or broken fibers become tangled together in a tiny knot or ball. It does not mean that it is poor quality, just shorter fibers that stick together. To avoid pilling use a disposable razor. Just like you use a razor to shave unwanted hair off your body, you can take the same product to your sweaters to remove the lint. A pumice stone can be used on softer fabrics. Wool pilling diminishes over time as non-tenacious wool fibers work themselves free of the fabric and break away, whereas pilling of synthetic textiles is a more serious problem, because the stronger fibers hold on to the.

WHAT TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN SHOPPING FOR A WOOL COAT

Wools can be found blended in a range of proportions with other fibers. Common ratios of polyester to wool include 65/35, 60/40, and 55/45. For increased warmth, a blend of at least 50% wool is recommended. Acrylic and polyester mixes usually are more colorful and look cool, but they have shorter lifetime, they lose shape and color faster.

If you want a good coat that stays the same over time the mix ratio should be over 70%. We recommend 100% and a mixture of different wools, wool is not always hard on the skin or stiff, most mixtures are very soft to touch. As we said before, natural fabrics pills diminish over time and work themselves free, but synthetics stick, so I guess this is one strong fact of buying natural wool coats.
